Conseillère du recteur

Dr Ariane König, a Luxembourger of German descent, holds the position of ‘Conseillère du Recteur’ of the University of Luxembourg. Her tasks include establishing interdisciplinary centres and partnerships with US universities.

Ariane König took her BA, MA and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. She worked for four years for a leading multinational life science corporation where she acted as regulatory affairs manager and scientific affairs co-ordinator for the region of Europ/Africa, and she was enrolled in the global leadership programme, until she left on her own accord at the end of 2000. Subsequently she was employed at Harvard University and at the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at Oxford University, where she conducted research and taught in post-graduate and executive training courses, focusing on risk analysis, the governance of biotechnology and food safety. Since her employment at Oxford, Ariane König remains an Associate Fellow of the Institute. She has also worked as independent scientific consultant for the OECD, the European Commission, EU research consortia (the SAFE FOODS project, and ENTRANSFOOD), and other research organizations. She considers her multi-cultural background from living in five countries and speaking six languages as particularly helpful for her engagement in the development of the University of Luxembourg.
