Social Enterprise
| EU policies and the UK government define social enterprises as "businesses with primarily social [and environmental] objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners." The concept of social business was coined by Prof. Muhammad Yunus to describe a specific type of social enterprise that makes no loss, but also pays no dividends for investors, as an additional safe guard for the social objectives over the life time of the enterprise. |
